Brief Bio: Kate Vann joined the Oceans and Climate Lab in the summer of 2016 as an Independent Study Student supervised by Prof. Karnauskas. Kate is majoring in Mathematics while minoring in ATOC and Spanish. Previously, Kate also served as Learning Assistant for ATOC 1060 under Prof. Karnauskas. Kate was selected to participate in the Undergraduate Leadership Workshop (ULW) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in June 2016 before heading out to Southern California to participate in the NASA Student Airborne Research Program Internship Program. While working at the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center and University of California-Irvine during the summer of 2016, Kate flew onboard the NASA DC-8 to assist in the operation of instruments measuring solar radiation and gases, and participated in post-campaign data analysis. Ms. Vann is continuing her Independent Study through Fall 2016 to complete her project, Investigating Methane Emissions in the San Joaquin Valley, which was selected for continued funding by NASA including the opportunity to present her results at the 2016 AGU Fall Meeting.
