Three students of the OC Lab publish papers in 2024!
Three ATOC Ph.D. candidates / Oceans & Climate Lab members published papers in 2024!
In July, Ethan Murray's first paper came out in Geophysical Research Letters on cloud height distributions and vertical mixing in hurricane eyewalls using airborne LiDAR. Also in July, Mikell Warms' paper on ocean temperature and circulation near the Galápagos in high-resolution models and observations was published in Progress in Oceanography. Finally, in November, Sydney Kramer's study of feedbacks maintaining the North Atlantic warming hole (a.k.a. the 'Cold Blob') was published in Scientific Reports. Much more to come from these three brilliant students here at CU Boulder!
In addition, Professor Karnauskas had the opportunity to coauthor papers led by students at collaborating institutions: (now Dr.) Indrani Ganguli (with Dr. Alex Gonzalez) published a study of the wind-evaporation-SST (WES) feedback in the Journal of Climate, and then-undergraduate (!) Quinn Mackay (with Prof. Laifang Li) published a paper in Geophysical Research Letters showing that the AMOC is important in North Atlantic warming hole development during significant global warming periods, but less so during stabilized regimes.
