Brief Bio: Mikell Warms is a second-year doctoral student in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ATOC). Mikell received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Santa Clara University, where he conducted research on low-tech coconut shell activated charcoal production. Mikell then earned his M.S. from Colorado State University, studying the calibration of hydrologic models applied to the Sahelian region of Africa. After teaching and working in the engineering private sector industry for several years, Mikell has returned to academia to pursue a Ph.D. Now funded by a NASA graduate fellowship (Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology, or FINESST), Mikell will investigate climate change impacts on the Galápagos Islands upwelling ecosystem using satellite observations and a high-resolution global model.
