Class of 2020: Paige Tapia

Major: Art Practices (IMAP Digital Media)
Minor: Technology Arts and Media
Other: Nominated for the LURA award

Future Plans: I am looking forward to taking some time off to relax, revaluate after this pandemic passes and find a job in my field that allows me to work using video or advertisements.
Favorite MASP Memory: Most of my memories were spending nights with my best friends Aili Miyake and Alex Melendez, we have spent many times together inside and outside of MASP. But I never would have met them if I had not gone to PEAC before starting my four year journey at CU Boulder. It's hard to nail the best memory down but I do remember when I knew I found great friends during PEAC when simple things like buying a giant tub of ice cream and Alex's mom's cooking was all we needed for a fun movie night with endless laughter.

Advice for younger MASPians: “Do not be afraid to branch out and meet new people. It's okay to have more than one safe space on campus with different kinds of communities to help you learn about all the different kinds of people there are at CU. Over your four years you will meet new people who surprise you or even people from your past that you were never friends with. It is my connection to MASP that has allowed me to recognize familiar faces outside of the MASP office and because of it I make friends with MASPians either in class or at work. There is never a shortage of people to meet so always be open to exploring new relationships.”

Paige
Since the first day I met Paige, when I walked into my PEAC dorm room, I knew we would be close friends. Paige is welcoming, funny, and always a joy to be around. During PEAC we had one of the best rooms, always open to other people as we hosted card games and movie nights. But at the end of the activity packed PEAC days I greatly enjoyed relaxing in our room talking about the day and getting to know each other. One of the first things I learned about Paige is that she is an impressive artist. I loved seeing what she made for the art class we had during PEAC, appreciated her showing me all the other beautiful pieces she did in high school, and was inspired seeing what she created throughout her time at CU. She had multiple pieces of work featured in school hosted art galleries or showings, including a  viewing of her work in the planetarium! In addition to being an amazing artist she is an incredible mentor. She worked for iD Tech for two summers where she taught kids ages 7-9 and 10-12. She also worked as an community assistant in the residence halls supporting students living in the dorms. She then took on a leadership role as Community Center Lead where she oversaw a team of community assistants and managed the front desk. This semester, Paige was nominated for the Linguistics Undergraduate Research Award. She is graduating with a B.A. in Art Practices (IMAP Digital Media) and a minor in Technology Arts and Media. Paige has many different interests and has so much talent in all areas of life. From her artwork, her skills with technology, her leadership skills, her hard work as a community assistant, her invaluable friendship, and much more, I am confident that Paige will have a bright future. I’m excited to see what she does! Thank you MASP for pairing us as roommates leading Paige to be my first friend at CU.
