Alex Thompson is a first year PhD student and analyst at The Aerospace Corporation in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Alex is a recipient of the Aerospace Fellowship. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan. Upon receiving this degree, he obtained an engineering position at AVL working on systems analysis for electric and electrified automobiles. While at AVL, Alex earned an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Michigan. He is currently employed as a Senior MTS in the Trajectory Design and Optimization Department at the Aerospace Corporation. His research interests include optimal trajectory design for hypersonic vehicles, multi-disciplinary optimization of reentry systems, space technology, and space exploration.
