Welcome to the Batey laboratory homepage! We are a research laboratory within the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Our primary research focus is to understand the structural and mechanistic basis for genetic regulation by RNA. We are now located in the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building (JSCBB) at the East Campus.
Our exciting research neighborhood on the fourth floor includes Profs. Tom Cech, Roy Parker and John Rinn (RNA biology), Robin Dowell (RNA bioinformatics and genomics), and Marcelo Sousa (structural biology of membrane proteins and protein transport). In addition, we have active collaborations with Prof. Deborah Wuttke to understand the role of RNA binding by transcription factors to regulate gene expression and Prof. Amy Palmer to develop new tools for imaging RNA in live mammalian cells and visualize the metabolome using RNA biosensors.
