Yiddish Studies is an integral part of the Program in Jewish Studies at CU. The Boulder community has long supported Yiddish-language activities under the leadership of a community-based group known as the Boulder Vinkl, which supported reading groups, meetings, and other educational activities related to Yiddish.  When the Program in Jewish Studies made Yiddish Studies a cornerstone of its educational programs in 2009, the Vinkl realized it had an opportunity to raise the profile of Yiddish in Colorado more broadly and used its funds to create the Yiddish Fund at the University of Colorado, which supports educational activities and courses related to Yiddish.  The Yiddish Fund has supported visiting lecturers and a course The History of Yiddish Culture (JWST/HIST 4544).
