The David Shneer Fund for Community Programming, Public Scholarship, and the Arts supports all aspects of Jewish Studies public programming, bringing academics and artists to Boulder for lectures, workshops, symposia, performances, and other offerings, and ensuring that our community of learning is precisely that—a genuine community, in which scholars, performers, students, and members of the public can learn, think, and grow together. The Fund honors the memory of our beloved friend and colleague, Professor David Shneer, z”l, who passed away in Fall 2020. One of the central beliefs animating David’s career was a commitment to building connections between the academy and the broader world. For him, this relationship-building was more than just one aspect of academic life among others. Rather, it stood at the heart of his vision of what it meant to be a scholar, teacher, and activist at a public university in the twenty-first century. To celebrate David’s memory and realize this vision, this fund has been inaugurated with a major gift from Eileen and Richard Greenberg, longstanding supporters of the Program in Jewish Studies, and close friends of David’s.
