Barry and Sue Baer Graduate Fellowships 

Open to CU Boulder Graduate Students

The Barry and Sue Baer Graduate Fellowship Fund supports graduate students at CU Boulder as they conduct research, produce creative works, and address scholarly gatherings across North America and around the globe. Calls for the Baer Fellowship are issued each semester. Thanks to the generosity of Barry and Sue Baer, graduate students involved with the Program in Jewish Studies may apply for the following types of support:

  • Conference Travel
  • Research Travel
  • Materials and Supplies

Conference Travel

The Barry and Sue Baer Graduate Fellowship Fund offers financial support of up to $500 for expenses for graduate students with a demonstrated commitment to the Program in Jewish Studies who are presenting papers related to Jewish Studies at conferences. Students from all disciplines are eligible to apply.
 

Submission Guidelines:

Applications should be submitted to CUJewishStudies@colorado.edu by the deadline and include the following information:
  • CV
  • a description of the conference, a copy of the proposal submitted to the conference, and proof of participation
  • an estimated budget (including expenses and revenues), and the total financial request, including information on additional funding sources applied for or pending
  • a letter of support from an advisor or other faculty member
    • Please request your letter from your recommender in advance. Recommendation letters must be received by the deadline.

Submission Deadline:

Rolling Applications - Submit by March 15, 2025

Research Travel

The Barry and Sue Baer Graduate Fellowship Fund also offers financial support for travel-related expenses for graduate students conducting original research. Grants of up to $2,500 are awarded to students with a demonstrated commitment to the Program in Jewish Studies who are pursuing projects related to Jewish Studies. Students from all disciplines are eligible to apply.

Submission Guidelines:

Applications should be submitted to CUJewishStudies@colorado.edu by the deadline and include the following information:
  • CV
  • a research/project proposal of up to 500 words addressing how the research project supports studies at CU Boulder and Jewish Studies
  • an estimated budget (including expenses and revenues), and the total financial request, including information on additional funding sources applied for or pending
  • a letter of support from an advisor or other faculty member
    • Please request your letter from your recommender in advance. Recommendation letters must be received by the deadline.

Barry and Sue Baer
Barry and Sue Baer were early supporters of Jewish Studies at CU Boulder as they have a passion for seeing Jewish Studies develop on the Boulder campus.  Barry is a graduate of CU’s Leeds School of Business (BS and MBA) and Sue has been an avid supporter of CU serving as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Arts and Sciences. In 2014, the Baers launched this graduate fellowship fund, placing the Program in Jewish Studies at the forefront of graduate training at CU.
