Yonatan Malin awarded a Roser Visiting Artist Grant

Yonatan Malin was awarded a Roser Visiting Artist Grant to bring the singer Anthony Mordechai Zvi Russell to campus for a Yiddish song residency this fall. Russell will be joined by accordionist and composer Dmitri Gaskin, cellist Raffi Boden, and violinist Zoë Aqua. There will be three public events:
- a colloquium by Aqua on Transylvanian folk music ethnography in Cluj, Romania, Monday October 27, 2:30pm
- a workshop by Russell on the performance of African American spirituals in Jewish settings, Monday October 27, 7:30pm; and
- a concert by the four musicians of Yiddish song from the repertoire of Sidor Belarsky, Wednesday October 29, 7:30pm. Locations and reservation details will be available soon.
The residency is also generously supported by the Henry Luce Foundation Jews of Color Grant, the Program in Jewish Studies Yiddish and Shneer Community funds, the American Music Research Center, and the Center for African and African American Studies.
