A gunman in an act of hate-filled terrorism shot and killed 50 Muslims, who were at prayer in two different mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand on Friday, March 15, 2019. We in the Program in Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder condemn this slaughter, just as we did the slaughter of the Jews, who were at prayer in a synagogue in Pittsburgh on October 27, 2018. We reaffirm our earlier statements excoriating “hate-speech, acts of hatred, and hate-mongering, including racism, sexism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, and homophobia.” We stand with our Muslim students, faculty colleagues, and staff in support and sorrow and renew our pledge to the kind of education that will, we hope, bring these atrocities to an end.
