Liora Halperin gives "Israel Studies Today" Lecture at University of Washington

Liora Halperin, Assistant Professor of History and Jewish Studies, spoke about her research at the University of Washington in Seattle on January 25, 2016 as part of a new series at the Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at UW called "Beyond the Binary: Israel Studies Today," which features new approaches in the field of Israel Studies. Halperin's talk, “Beyond Hebrew: Zionism and the Politics of Language Diversity in Palestine and Israel” reflects the theme of the lecture series by going beyond standard divisions in the field of Israel Studies to articulate new perspectives on the history of the region. Halperin aso gave presentations drawing from her recent book Babel in Zion: Jews, Nationalism, and Language Diversity in Palestine, 1928-1948 at UCLA and UC Santa Barabara.
