Sarah Gavison to present paper on Stalin and Zionism at CU History Conference

Sarah Gavison, PhD Candidate in History, successfully defended her dissertation prospectus in July entitled "Stalin's Zionism: Soviet Policy on Jewish Survivors in Poland and their Role in Soviet Support for the Creation of Israel, 1944-1949." Supported by a grant from CU's Department of History, she will conduct research for her dissertation throughout the United States, Israel, Russia, and Poland during the upcoming year.

Since summer 2014, Sarah has been working within the Mazal Holocaust Collection, housed by CU's Archives. In addition to continuing her work in the archives, she will be taking over for graduate student Nick Underwood as the assistant managing editor of the East European Jewish Affairs journal.

In addition, Sarah will be presenting a paper entitled "The Origins of Stalin's Short-Lived Alliance with Zionism" at the Rocky Mountain Interdisciplinary History Conference September 18-20, 2015.
