alpine clubAll Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs) and Recognized Student Greek Organizations (RSGOs) are required annually to re-register their organization with the Center for Student Involvement – it’s how we know you are still up and running. Follow the steps and policies outlined below to complete the process, just know you’ll need to finish before September 30. Registration begins annually on July 1.

Are you a Recognized Student Greek Organization (RSGO)? Please email studentorganizations@colorado.edu to initiate your fraternity/sorority’s registration process.

To keep it simple, you’ll need to complete the following three steps:

1. Attend an annual RSO training

Managing an RSO carries a great deal of responsibility, requiring skills and knowledge to succeed. Know CSI is here for your success, thus our training covers everything you need to know about managing your RSO, such as resources and benefits, funding and university policies/procedures. It is also a great way to ask questions while getting to know other student leaders.

Each RSO is required to attend one annual RSO training. Trainings are offered virtually, with limited in-person options. Only one member from the organization is required to attend, but we encourage you to send members who serve in officer/leadership roles (and haven't attended the training previously) to represent the group.

  • You cannot attend on behalf of more than one student organization.
  • You are not expected to prepare for this training.
  • RSVP is required and registrations must be received within 24 hours prior to the training date.

2. Complete the post-event form and RSO/RSGO agreement

After attending an annual RSO training, the student member who attended will be emailed a link to the 2022-23 post-event form and RSO/RSGO agreement, alongside a digital copy of the annual RSO training presentation. Once this form is submitted, CSI staff will review and approve agreements in order of receipt.

3. Submit the organization registration or organization transition form on BuffConnect

After your organization attends an annual RSO training and completes the 2022-23 post-event form and RSO/RSGO agreement you will be provided the next steps relating to your organization’s BuffConnect portal.

If your RSO registered with CSI during the 2021-22 academic year, you will complete organization transition.

  • The organization administrators will receive an email to begin organization transition on BuffConnect. This transition will give you the ability to edit the BuffConnect portal, update bylaws, edit rosters/advisors and update organization administrators.
    • Not sure if your group has the most up-to-date organization administrators? Email studentorganizations@colorado.edu, stop by our office in UMC 330 or message us on LiveChat and we can verify that for you.

If your RSO did not register with CSI during the 2021-22 academic year, you will complete organization registration.

  • The student member who submitted the 2022-23 post-event form and RSO agreement will receive an email from BuffConnect (Presence) with a link to the organization registration form. This form will build out the organization’s BuffConnect portal which is essentially your group’s profile.
    • The organization registration form is quite extensive so we recommend working with others within your group to make sure you have everything posted.
      • Not everything on this form will be displayed publicly such as your rosters, organization administrators, advisors, etc.
      • What is shown publicly are areas such as organization abbreviation, description, welcome letter/video, operations, organization email, office hours/location, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Your RSO is in good standing if your student organization appears in BuffConnectStudent organizations that have not re-registered with CSI for the 2021-22 academic year will not see their BuffConnect portal.

Re-registering with our office is especially important this year. It ensures your organization receives the most up-to-date information surrounding student organization operations on campus and grants your RSO access to the BuffConnectStudent organizations that have not re-registered with CSI for the 2021-22 academic year will not have a BuffConnect portal.

Basically, you need to re-register with our office. Student organizations that have not re-register with CSI for the 2021-22 academic year will not have a BuffConnect portal.

Your student organization will likely look a bit different than it has in past years and that’s OK! We still encourage your RSO to re-register with our office, even if you don’t have the fall semester planned out. Re-registering helps new students looking to get involved know that is a student organization out there matches their interest.

If your organization’s page on BuffConnect is visible on BuffConnect, you’ve completed the appropriate steps. If you’re questioning whether all steps have been completed, please email studentorganizations@colorado.edu.

Bylaws are documents maintained by an RSO that establish the specific rules of governance by which the organization is to follow and implement. They describe how the organization is structured, how it is organized and its methods of operation. The CSI Resource Center has more info on bylaws.

Bylaws are a requirement for funding. Most student-fee funding sources require student organizations attach their bylaws alongside funding requests in order to receive funding for operations, events and travel. However, CU Boulder and CSI do not currently require all RSOs to maintain bylaws. Thus, we highly recommend you save and upload your bylaws on BuffConnect if you intend on applying for funding in the near or distant future, but know we currently do not require an RSO submit them during re-registration.

If you missed our annual RSO trainings that occurred before the September 30 deadline, you can attend an annual RSO training occuring on one of the dates listed below. These occur throughout the academic year and are offered virtually.
  • You cannot attend on behalf of more than one student organization.
  • You are not expected to prepare for this training.
  • RSVP is required for annual RSO trainings and registrations must be received within 24 hours prior to the training date.

Training dates for after the September deadline will be added here closer to the end of September.

Unfortunately, access to all the benefits ascribed to RSOs would be lost. That means the following abilities would be removed:

  • Ability to apply for event, travel or operational funding
  • Ability to reserve spaces on campus at discounted or free rates
  • Ability to reserve a table for the Be Involved Fair or Involvement Fair
  • Ability to apply for and be recognized at the annual CU Involvement Awards
  • Ability to access to the BuffConnect page for your RSO’s for recruitment and networking purposes
  • Ability to access the colorado.edu email address specific to your organizationAbility to participate in leadership development programs offered through CU GOLD

Once an organization submits their re-registration, all benefits acribed above will be reinstated.

Leading and managing a student organization can be challenging, especially during these times. Before you decide if your student organization should go inactive, we encourage you to meet with your CSI liaison. Your CSI liaison can help support your student organization in the decision making process.
