CU Boulder Featured: In the NIL arms race, some schools are going the extra mile to help their athletes

Any athlete has the option to participate in CU Boulder's Buffs With a Brand program, which was officially announced in June 2020 and began last August. The nearly 20 Buffs who took part in the pilot year met for sessions—over Zoom because of COVID-19 restrictions—for around two hours each month. The first hour was often spent on lessons in business fundamentals from Erick Mueller, executive director for the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship, followed by entrepreneurship group sessions and workshops highlighted by guest speakers.

'Buffs With A Brand' Wraps Up First Year, Readies For NIL Changes Ahead

In May, approximately 20 Buffs student-athletes wrapped up the inaugural year of "Buffs With a Brand," a groundbreaking program designed to help them maximize their personal brands. The student-athletes finished the year by presenting final projects that consisted of either a compilation of the information and skills they developed over the year, or a "Shark Tank"-style presentation of a "business" they created in the class.

Futurum partnership puts CU research in the hands of younger students

It’s hard to imagine a teenager who could resist exploring mechanical engineering after learning about Endoculus, the small device developed by CU Boulder Professor Mark Rentschler and student researchers in his lab that can navigate the human gastrointestinal system with ease and may someday help doctors care for their patients. Futurum helped translate Rentschler’s complex research into easy-to-digest (no pun intended) content that teachers can incorporate into their lesson plans and share with their students.
