Deming Center Innovations that inspire

The innovative Demystifying Entrepreneurship workshop series produced by the Deming Center for Entrepreneurship at the Leeds School of Business, has received global acclaim in the 2020  Innovations That Inspire challenge by AACSB International, the world’s largest business education alliance.

Leeds is one of the 25 business schools chosen this year, out of a pool of 1,700.

The annual challenge selects institutions that serve as change-agents in business education, encourage out-of-the-box thinking and transform the face of higher education. This year’s theme, “Catalysts for Innovation,” is about elevating entrepreneurial thinking and new business creation.

The Demystifying Entrepreneurship: Rural Colorado workshop series, presented by the Deming Center, transports Leeds business faculty throughout rural Colorado to teach innovation and entrepreneurship to current and aspiring entrepreneurs. The interactive certificate course provides a fundamental framework and tool set that helps entrepreneurs develop in-demand products and services, avoid pitfalls, and succeed.

Not only do entrepreneurs benefit from this program, but small mountain communities enjoy better economic viability and sustainability when local entrepreneurs are successful.

“Our workshops target areas that are challenged by economic hardships, such as the closing of coal mines, to support the education of current and potential community business owners,” says Erick Mueller, executive director of the Deming Center at Leeds.

“The goal is for each Colorado community to see an increase of people starting and growing their ventures, leading to job creation and a higher quality of life throughout Colorado.”
