Research Interests: Embodied Cognition, Gesture/Movement, Language Acquisition, Computational Linguistics, AR, Educational technology design

Bio: Lucie Vleugels completed her undergraduate degree in May of 2018 at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. She studied Cognitive Science & Spanish, with key interests in language acquisition, learning theory, and mental models.

From 2019-2022, she worked with Microsoft’s Semantic Machines team to support the development of their dynamic conversational AI system. While improving the data production life-cycle and development experience, she became enamored by the multitude of unanswered questions around agent decision-making and language ambiguity. These mysteries motivated her to return to school to study Human-Computer interaction.

Now Lucie is an ATLAS Institute Creative Technology & Design Master’s student working on completing the Graduate Certificate in Cognitive Science within The ICS.  She aims to investigate the nature of learning processes and how to enrich educational experiences with embodied design principles and creative emerging technologies.
