National Contest Winners Exploring German-American History
Students of the fall semester German 2020 course won second and third prizes in the national contest First Encounters (organized by the American Association of Teachers of German) in which learners were invited to explore the German roots and German-American encounters in their own communities and to document and share their discoveries. Jamie Kitchens won second prize for his short video documenting the migration of Germans to Oklahoma. Jamie Hancock DeRose received third prize for her video portrayal of the German Jewish immigrant Löb Strauß and his manufacturing company for blue jeans.
