The department’s faculty work on all periods of French literature, from the Middle Ages to the present, including Francophone literature, cultural studies, film and literary theory. Graduate students are encouraged to work in a broad interdisciplinary context with the departments of comparative literature, film studies, linguistics, philosophy, history and other literature departments. Requirements are structured to foster original research at the frontiers of the discipline.
