Values and Principles

The University of Colorado Boulder recognizes global engagement as an essential element of delivering on its core mission and cultivates engagements that advance the university’s mission and align with its guiding principles and values.

The University of Colorado Boulder is a public research university serving Colorado, the nation and the world.  The university’s core mission is to educate and engage in cutting-edge scholarship, creative work, research and discovery. The success of this mission determines our ability to accomplish our strategic imperatives, which are to shape tomorrow’s leaders, be the top university for innovation and positively impact humanity.

Delivering on CU Boulder’s mission demands world-class research, education and cooperative engagement among students, faculty and researchers, including engagement with individuals and organizations spanning the state, the nation and the world.

The university’s vision for global engagement is to strengthen CU Boulder by connecting the university with individuals, institutions and experiences from around the world that can contribute knowledge, opportunities and resources to ensure the university remains at the global forefront of scholarship, creative work, research and discovery.

Such engagements will be sought and supported only when they advance the university’s mission, and are consistent with the university’s Guiding Principles and Principles of Ethical Behavior, the Colorado Creed, Inclusive Excellence, and our fundamental values of free expression, academic freedom, and critical thinking.

We operate following three main concepts in order to implement and support CU’s international strategy:

Our Values:

Connectivity

Coordination

Collaboration

Connecting, coordinating, and collaborating results in a multiplying effect when leveraging our resources to help academic units achieve goals that would not be possible to achieve when working in isolation.
