The new Civil Environmental and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) Graduate Assistantships in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program begins in 2021. It is titled Resilient and Equitable Infrastructure through Participatory, Inclusive Engineering. The project focuses on addressing the country’s civil infrastructure needs through inclusive approaches and technologies that support thriving communities with equitable access to safe and reliable services such as transportation, water/sanitation, building, and power infrastructure.  The GAANN provides funding and support to a cohort of graduate students pursuing PhDs (GAANN “Fellows”) who are interested in multidisciplinary teaching and research that creates just and equitable infrastructure solutions.

To imagine novel solutions that utilize new materials, new technologies, and new processes for infrastructure design and management, we particularly encourage applications from individuals belonging to historically underrepresented and underserved groups within engineering. This new generation of graduate civil engineers will develop the highest level of technical expertise, as well as a deep understanding of inclusive processes and the social, cultural, economic and political factors that influence just and equitable infrastructure design, access, and use to meet the needs of tomorrow’s communities.
