- CIVIL SYSTEMS

Melissa graduated in summer 2023 with PhD degree in Civil Systems focusing on sustainable material design. She was born and raised in Eagle River, Alaska, and moved to Boulder in 2018 to pursue her doctorate. Melissa's research was focused on the use of novel, environmentally sustainable binder materials in flexible pavements. Her research combined experimental work and computational approaches to quantify system-scale lifecycle benefits of the use of these new materials. She was co-advised by Dr. Wil Srubar.
Outside of work, Melissa enjoys painting, backpacking, yoga, and spending time with her two rescue cats.
