Melissa graduated in summer 2023 with PhD degree in Civil Systems focusing on sustainable material design. She was born and raised in Eagle River, Alaska, and moved to Boulder in 2018 to pursue her doctorate. Melissa's research is focused on the use of novel, environmentally sustainable binder materials in flexible pavements. Her research combines experimental work and computational approaches to quantify system-scale lifecycle benefits of the use of these new materials. She is co-advised by Dr. Wil Srubar.

Outside of work, Melissa enjoys painting, backpacking, yoga, and spending time with her two rescue cats.
