SURI

AFRL / AFOSR Space University Research Initiative (SURI)

CU Boulder, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and L3Harris are jointly performing on a Space University Research Initiative (SURI) award from AFOSR.

Research

The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), Texas A&M University (TAMU), the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), and L3Harris Technologies (L3Harris) have teamed to investigate basic research interrogating novel sensor exploitation. The team will infer internal space object modes, sensor network architectures, the art of the possible in 'beyond geosynchronous orbit' (XGEO) operations and strategies, and human-in-the-loop autonomous systems. New basic research and sensing advances in technically diverse fields such as cognitive engineering, autonomy, decision-mkaing under uncertainty, modern astrodynamics, multi-target tracking and dim object detection are providing a decadal opportunity to address new and future tactical and strategic space domain awareness (SDA) near Earth and beyond. This initiative aims to enable tactical space object identification, proliferated small footprint radio-frequency sensors, dim object detection and tracking, and question-based tactical sensor tasking through the development and transition of technology.
