Media Production + Political Science Minor

  • The Media Production program emphasizes analytical and production skills needed to create cross-platform media. Students are asked to critically analyze existing media and their own work through a variety of theoretical, critical study, and studio classes. Tools utilized include photography, audio/video editing, video production, computational media, open source programming, and emergent technology. 

  • The Political Science minor offers instruction in the scientific study of politics and provides students with the skills necessary for a lifetime of inquiry, engagement and analysis. Courses explore various facets of the political world, including the fields of American government and politics, comparative politics, public policy, political theory, empirical theory and methodology, and international relations.

Strategic Communication + English Minor

  • Strategic Communication explores the way in which organizations use advertising, public relations and media design to accomplish their communication goals. Students learn how to generate ideas and solve problems for brands and issues through a design thinking process that is grounded in analytical and creative thought.

  • Students in the English minor program study both literature and the practice of writing through the exploration of various genres. Studies in English cultivate humanistic and global empathy, and empower students to be engaged citizens and vital contributors to the advancement of the world’s societies and cultures.

Interdisciplinary Media Art Practices - Digital Arts + Sports Media Minor

  • The digital arts program explores the use and integration of new media technologies into art practices. Additionally, it offers a critical and collaborative art research environment where students investigate emerging art forms and media technologies that feed into their own evolving practice.

  • The mission of the minor in sports media is to broaden students' understanding of the role of sports in society by enhancing the quality of public communication on sports, especially the quality of sports journalism and the delivery of sporting events.

Sustainable Planning & Urban Design + Media Production Minor

  • Sustainable planning and urban design examine issues of sustainability and social justice in communities, cities and regions around the world. Heavily centered around community engagement, this major allows students to focus on a variety of topics, such as housing, environmental planning, transportation planning and urban design. Students examine these topics through a combination of design, policy and management perspectives.

  • The Media Production minor provides a foundation in the critical study of media along with a wide range of creative electives. Available topics include photography, audio/video editing, video production, computational media, open source programming, and emergent technology

Statistics & Data Science + Cinema Studies Minor

  • The Statistics and Data Science major examines both traditional statistical methods and cutting edge data analysis techniques. Students learn the cross-disciplinary statistical and analytical tools and problem-solving strategies required to solve real world problems.

  • The Cinema Studies minor provides knowledge on the history, methodology, aesthetic value, and production of cinematic storytelling. Critical thinking and writing skills are heavily emphasized as students examine cinema through film screenings, readings, and lectures.

Information Science + International Media Certificate

  • Information Science majors learn to collect, analyze and interpret many different information sources to understand our world. They study how we interact with all things digital, including software, devices and algorithms, and are able to create social and technological solutions that are truly engaging for those who use them, apply those solutions to real problems, and evaluate their effectiveness. Students will build a toolkit integrating design, computation and data analysis

  • The International Media Certificate allows students to explore careers in international reporting, advertising, and entertainment. Students will acquire the context and perspective necessary to understand the debates and issues that dominate contemporary geo-politics.

Creative Technology & Design + Media Studies Minor

  • From designing and creating games, mobile apps, websites, robots, or internet-connected devices of all kinds, to exploring visual communication and design, the transdisciplinary BS in Creative Technology & Design infuses creativity into engineering and technology. Equal parts production, critique and theory, the Creative Technology & Design degree integrates technical expertise with project-based exploration and a critical and historical understanding of creative and digital technologies.

  • The Media Studies minor emphasizes the creative and analytical skills needed to make sense of current and future trends in media, and to gain a deep understanding of the history and development of various means and forms of communication. Explorations of media theory, history, criticism, practices, popular culture, technology and emerging cultures are enhanced by practical training in media design, storytelling, digital art, online community engagement, documentary filmmaking and social media.

Journalism + Computer Science Minor 

  • Journalism majors develop skills in information gathering, storytelling and analysis across a variety of platforms—including television, social media, mobile devices, radio and print—using an ever-expanding variety of media tools and technologies.

  • The Computer Science minor offers a basic introduction to the field of computer science. Students complete coursework in topics such as computer systems, data structures, and programming.

Theatre + Information Science Minor

  • From acting to costume technology, the theatre program offers a broad-based BA program intended for students interested in theatre, as well as other areas of study. Theater majors get to explore artistic discipline, creativity, critical insight and interpersonal communication. Students are encouraged to produce their own work and get involved in activities ranging from participation in productions to presentation of individual creative work.

  • The Creative Technology and Design Minor integrates technological skills with a critical, theoretical, and historical understanding of technology, media and design. The program prepares the next generation of artists, designers, and media producers, teaching students to be active and critically aware producers of creative technology

Cinema Studies + Communication Minor

  • A Cinema Studies major helps students develop skills to analyze the art of film and moving images. The program provides knowledge on the history, methodology, aesthetic value, and production of cinematic storytelling.   • The Communication minor explores how communication shapes everything we do in society. It teaches students how to design innovative messages, build quality personal and professional relationships, foster critical thinking skills, and prepares students to thrive in a variety of professions.

  • The Sociology major focuses on the scientific study of human social behavior, specifically looking at how society influences individuals, and how individuals influence society. Students explore a large array of social topics and phenomena using the sociological imagination.

  • The Creative Technology and Design Minor integrates technological skills with a critical, theoretical, and historical understanding of technology, media and design. Computer Science + Art Practices Minor

  • The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science teaches students about how computers are constructed as well as store and process data. Students learn about creating software and how software interacts with hardware, humans, and the world around them.

  • The Art Practices minor consists almost solely of studio courses. Students can focus on drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, digital art, or other unique forms of visual artistic expression.

International Affairs + Journalism Minor

  • International Affairs majors begin their studies with a survey of the most compelling global issues of the day and then go on to detailed analyses of international relations and economics. Courses also focus on problems of international development, the environment, international economic relations and United States foreign policy.

  • Students pursuing a Journalism minor develop skills in information gathering, storytelling and analysis across a variety of platforms—including television, social media, mobile devices, radio and print—using an ever-expanding variety of media tools and technologies.
