The Center for Advising & Student Achievement offers a few different ways to get engaged with the first-year students in Environmental Design. We offer two roles that students can apply for.
Student Success Team
Student Success Leaders are appointed each spring semester and serve as the face of the Emerging Leaders Program in Environmental Design. They assist in Orientation, one-on-one peer mentoring with a first-year student and oversee key programming and workshops alongside other student organizations. Our mission is to help all students navigate the learning curve that comes within design education from desk crits, mock pin-ups, and academic tabling to assist with first-year coursework and support. Applicants should consider the following:
- Will provide support, guidance, encouragement and information to first-year mentees
- Should maintain high levels of confidentiality and ethical standards
- Should check-in with mentee weekly
- Will meet with mentee once a month to talk about goals for the semester
- Should record and report all student interaction
- will help students become familiar with university resources and advise and refer students to appropriate university resources as needed
- Will attend mentor trainings, meetings, outings and events
- Should enroll in the Peer Mentor leadership seminar during the fall semester
- Should be available to work 5-7 hours a week
