A Message from ENVD Director, Paul Chinowsky

Happy Spring, ENVD Alumni!

It is always amazing to me how quickly the spring semester comes to a close. One day you are experiencing snow (OK, that could be any day during the spring semester), and the next day our students are frantically completing their projects and preparing for jury week. However, it is also an energizing time of year. We are already busy planning for next year’s class and completing class schedules for next year. Before we know it, summer will be in full swing and it will be time to plan for fall classes. But before we do that, I want to tell you about some of the exciting things happening in ENVD right now.

Building renovation – I am very excited to let you know that we are getting ready for some major renovating in our main building as well as our CINC facility. We are creating a new gallery in the main building, renovating the lobby and adding some student-friendly spaces on the third floor. We are also creating a new maker space in the building to help students learn new technical skills and make it easier for students to build models in our own building. There will be some great opportunities for naming spaces, becoming program partners with your logo in the gallery and other partnership opportunities. We are definitely looking for sponsors for our new spaces.
New Faculty – ENVD is focusing on providing our students with the best faculty we can bring to Boulder. We are excited to say that we will have about 10 new faculty starting in August. These faculty represent all four areas in the program. We look forward to welcoming our new faculty and will be doing a special introduction section to our new faculty in the fall newsletter.
New Curriculum – After discussing and planning for an entire year, our new curriculum is in place and students are now registering for classes. It is a complete rethinking of how we educate students to include 8-week studios, more technology courses, more advanced studios and an opportunity to build individual paths through the curriculum. We welcome the opportunity to discuss our curriculum with you!
Other Initiatives – If we were not already tackling enough change, there are a few more already getting started. We are putting in place new opportunities for global learning. We are exploring new opportunities to build our partnership with the professional community. And, we are putting in place exciting opportunities for students to go on short study tours with faculty. If you interested in hosting a group at your firm or organization in the fall during one of our visits, let us know.

As you can see, ENVD is an exciting place this spring. As we get ready for our first Open House this week, we hope that many of you in the area might have a chance to stop by, see the student work and meet the great faculty and staff that support our Program. As always, I am always available to talk with you about our Program and our big goals.
