On Wednesday, October 2, third-year students in environmental product design wrapped up their first project: designing an education-focused artifact for children in crisis zones.
Last Friday, Instructor Neal Evers and HMH Architecture + Interiors Principal Architect Harvey Hine, an ENVD alum, were awarded with an AIA Colorado Award of Distinction for their Modern Stair design. The Modern Stair design was created specifically for the Sloan’s Vista house.
Program in Environmental Design Assistant Professor Jota Samper was recognized for a 2019-20 Faculty Outreach Award for the Medellin Global Seminar: Colombian Displaced Communities: Planning and Urban Design.
ENVD Associate Professor Susannah Drake was featured in a recent New York Times article. Drake, the founder of Brooklyn's DLANDstudio, was highlighted in a fall preview featuring design projects that suggest "that hard barriers between the designed environment and the natural one are softening–maybe for good." The ENVD 4361 Dissent by Design mini-exhibit "Situating Dissent" will be housed in the environmental design gallery, located in the front entrance of the building, from September 12 to September 19.
Environmental Design Assistant Professor Shawhin Roudbari recently published the essay "Three Degrees of Ethical Engagement: A Manifesto for Architects" on PLATFORM. It is hard to believe we are already in the third week of the semester. Everyone is in a routine and it is exciting to see the initial project reviews happening in studios. I hope all of our new first-year students are beginning to feel that they are a part of the ENVD community.
This summer, a design, research and build studio is redesigning a campus parking lot, near the engineering building, to include habitats that will support native bees while improving their visual and ecological function.
