PhD Candidate

John Pugh is a doctoral student at the University of Colorado Boulder specializing in 19th and 20th century literature of the American West. His work is primarily focused on cultural memory and depictions of the Old West in popular media. He graduated in 2017 from Boston College, with a BA in both English and Economics. After exploring the American Southwest following his graduation, he returned to academia, attending the University of Maryland, where his studies focused on ecocriticism. He received his MA in English Language and Literature in 2020 with a thesis exploring ecology as a tool of narrative characterization in Leslie Marmon Silko's Almanac of the Dead.
