ENGL 3000-001: Shakespeare for Nonmajors

Drawing of Shakespeare wearing sunglasses with city skyline in background

Tales of love, lust, jealousy, and betrayal; mirth and mischief; greed and murder; revenge, mercy, and redemption: welcome to the world of Shakespeare! We’ll encounter villainous kings, evil usurpers, and even a few charismatic heroes, as well as ill-fated lovers, deceitful rogues, outcast aliens, wise fools, witty servants, and unruly women. Discover why Shakespeare’s characters continue to enthrall readers and viewers over 400 years after their first stage performances!

We’ll read a selection of comedies, tragedies, a history, and a romance. You’ll visit CU’s Special Collections Department to see early modern texts, artifacts, and artwork. And, you’ll create and present your own Shakespeare project to the class!
