Path worth pursuing for scholarship recipient Cassia Maux

Cassia Maux is a physics major and an English/creative writing major which gives many quizzical looks; she describes it as a challenge to her whole brain. She values creative writing as an art to give her mind a break from the math and science. Her writings explore relationships, emotions, and most importantly gaining strength from adversity. She enjoys tutoring and tutors a variety of subjects including math, physics and rhetoric. This fall she is looking forward to being a learning assistant in PHYS 1010 and bringing the joys of physics to non-science majors. In her free time Cassia can be found reading, writing and knitting.
“I started crying when I read that I had won the Gentian Scholarship. I have never been too confident in my musings even with compliments I have received. I strive for perfection in what I want to convey, and I feel like talking about the whole of human emotion is beyond my grasp with just words. Being awarded this scholarship lets me know that I am on a path worth pursing and that there are people who believe that I am talented enough to succeed. There is not a word in my vocabulary that can accurately describe how I feel, but I am beyond honored to have won. I want to show my new patrons that I am worth the gift that they have given me by working hard.”
