Breanne PyeBreanne Pye is an English Literature major/Education minor with equal passion for reading, teaching and writing. She especially values creative writing as a means of giving her experiences as a U.S. Army Soldier a voice with which to reach fellow Veterans and their loved ones. She has served as a learning assistant in EDUC 4112 for the past year and looks forward to putting that experience to use after graduating this coming spring semester. Breanne is currently working on her application for the Master Fine Arts program in Creative Writing here at CU Boulder.

“The possibility of working toward an English degree in my thirties wouldn’t have been possible for me without the generosity and support of Art Kaufman and his Gentian Ascension Scholarship. Not only has his scholarship given me the extra funding I need to chase this crazy dream of higher education, but his personal encouragement and support continue to be a factor in my success. I am humbled beyond words to be the recipient of the Gentian Ascension Scholarship. As an English literature major, I have had few opportunities to engage in my passion for creative writing. I wasn’t even sure I could write before I received this award. It has had an extremely positive impact on my confidence in my ability to write and has served as motivation for me to continue my studies in creative writing by applying for admittance to the Master of Fine Arts program. Thank you, Art, from the bottom of my heart, for believing in me and for believing in my writing enough to take a chance on a literature major!”
