We instituted the contamination survey reporting program to help maintain safety for researchers using unsealed sources of radiation. Laboratories where unsealed materials are present should follow these three steps:
- Laboratories should be surveyed with filter wipe smears to check for loose contamination each week (defined as Sunday-Saturday) that unsealed radiation is used in the lab
- All survey results and print-outs should be stored in a binder in the laboratory for perusal during audits
- Each month, every laboratory licensed for unsealed radioisotopes (even if radioisotopes are not used), needs to submit a Contamination Survey Report to the Radiation Safety Unit. Please note that this report must be submitted from a University computer (either on campus or with VPN).
