Brittany Gutierrez

Brittany Gutierrez She/Her/Ella - Butterfly Effect

My name is Brittany Gutierrez Zacarias and I am excited to be running for the position of tri-executive president for CUSG. As a third-year, first-generation student at the University of Colorado Boulder, I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Psychology, and a Minor in Korean. My upbringing in Glenwood Springs CO, has instilled in me a strong sense of community and the importance of working together towards common goals.

In addition to my academic pursuits, I have also been actively involved in student organizations such as UMAS y MECHA, where I have been able to utilize and develop my critical thinking, public speaking, teamwork, organization, confidence, and leadership skills. These skills have also been honed through my participation in Mock Trial, where I was able to develop a sense of attention to detail and the ability to think on my feet.

Looking towards the future, my goal is to pursue higher education by attending law school, with a focus on criminal justice and immigration. I am passionate about helping multicultural communities and believe that I can use these skills to make the CU Boulder student body community stronger. Some of my goals as tri-executive president involve getting more students involved in student government, and reaching all communities on campus to address issues that affect us all.

As your tri-executive president, I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure that the student body's voices are heard and that their needs are met.Through our pillars of transparency, education, campus safety, accessibility, and Communidad, we aim to promote a more incluse, equitable, and supportive campus environment for all students. I am excited to have the opportunity to serve as a leader and to make a positive impact on our campus community.

Our campaign, Butterfly Effect, is committed to making small changes that have a big impact on the student experiences at CU-B. We believe that transparency is key to building trust and ensuring that students have a voice in decision-making processes. By making information more accessible and engaging with students through open channels of communication, we can work towards a more transparent and accountable university.   We aim to establish multiple channels through which students can provide feedback and communicate with the student government. This may include email, social media, online forums, suggestion boxes, or CUSG meetings. Students will be  aware that these lines of communication are accessible to them and promote these channels through flyers, posters, announcements, and social media. We will see to it that feedback is addressed promptly and appropriately. Respond to questions, concerns, and suggestions, and keep students informed of any actions taken in response to their feedback. And most importantly, we will work with student organizations to facilitate communication and feedback from their members. This can help ensure that the student government is aware of the specific concerns of various student groups.

We aim to break down barriers for underrepresented groups, students experiencing food insecurity, and those who face challenges accessing campus resources and facilities. We also prioritize education, advocating for increased funding for cultural programs and hands-on learning opportunities for all students. Our campaign is committed to promoting campus safety and creating a sense of community and belonging through collaboration and celebrating diversity. With a focus on transparency, accessibility, and inclusivity, we believe that we can make CU-Boulder a better place for all students to thrive.

Cassandra Garcia Vega

Casandra Garcia Vega she/her/ella - Butterfly Effect

Hello! My name is Casandra Garcia Vega, and I am thrilled to be running for the position of Tri-Executive President for CUSG as part of the Butterfly Effect ticket. Through our pillars of transparency, education, campus safety, accessibility, and Communidad, we aim to promote a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive campus environment for all students. As a third-year, first-generation student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in International Affairs with a concentration in Latin America and Political Science, and a minor in Multicultural Leadership, I am passionate about using my education and skills to positively impact multicultural communities and the CU Boulder student body. I have a distinct perspective on leadership and community involvement, having been born in Colorado and raised in both Colorado and Michoacan, Mexico. Throughout my life, I have been interested in learning about different cultures and finding ways to help my community. My leadership style prioritizes the success of others and allows me to help out in a unique way compared to other leaders. One of the most significant learning experiences in my leadership education has been through the Multicultural Leadership Studies program and being part of the student-led organization UMAS y MECHA that focuses on strengthening these skills. Through UMAS y MECHA, I learned the meaning of "In lak'ech," a Mayan phrase that expresses the idea that we are all connected and should treat others with respect and compassion. This has prompted me to consider how my actions can positively or negatively affect individuals. Some of my goals include promoting transparency and accountability within the university. This would involve creating opportunities for students to provide feedback and have a say in university decisions through town hall meetings and other forums. I also aim to advocate for increased funding for cultural programs and hands-on learning opportunities for all students, and to advocate for more sustainable practices and initiatives on campus. Additionally, I aim to promote campus safety by creating a safe, stigma-free, inclusive, and supportive campus environment. Lastly, I aim to increase funding for mental health resources and support for students. My goal is to break down barriers and promote a sense of community and belonging through the Butterfly Effect's pillars of transparency, education, campus safety, accessibility, and Communidad.
