Museum Security and Hospitality Assistant

Join the University of Colorado Museum of Natural History’s Visitor Services team and help create a safe and enjoyable environment for our visitors. We are looking for motivated, friendly students who show initiative and can adapt to many different situations and interactions. Primary duties include conducting gallery walk-throughs and reporting activity, engaging with visitors during gallery walk-throughs, making coffee and hot water for the free beverage station in the BioLounge, and keeping the beverage station stocked, clean and presentable to museum quality standards. 

Position: Student Assistant I
Hourly pay rate: $11.00


Responsibilities

Security (completed in conjunction with Hospitality duties)

  • Monitoring visitor presence and interactions within gallery and other public spaces of the museum through multiple gallery walk-throughs per shift.
  • Regularly reporting observed activity to Visitor Services Front Desk staff, either face-to-face or through radio communication.
  • Correct visitors who are not following museum policies. Learn and commit to memory gallery exhibit layouts and contents.
  • Assist other departments and personnel in Museum as needed.

Hospitality (completed in conjunction with Security duties)

  • Brew pots of coffee and hot water for free beverage station in the museum’s BioLounge Gallery multiple times per shift.
  • Keep the beverage station fully stocked and cleaned.
  • Operate the dishwasher as needed to clean mugs.
  • Take out compost and trash, as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have a work-study award 
  • Available to work a flexible schedule, primarily (but not exclusively) mornings and early afternoons.
  • Available to work weekend mornings and early afternoons.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse population groups and maintain a high standard of professional conduct.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and efficient.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks while working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to carry up to 25lbs up and down stairs multiple times per day.
