Lauren has worked as a licensed professional counselor in CAPS since 2002. She received her MA degree from Naropa University in Transpersonal Counseling with a concentration in Art Therapy. Lauren has worked in several crisis programs which include: Lafayette, CO for Exempla Good Samaritan’s Emergency Department for Behavioral Health; in Bend, OR for Deschutes County crisis unit; Cincinnati, OH for the Dept. of Human Services in the Jobs and Children’s Services unit and Boston, MA for Wediko Children’s Services working in the program which served as a behavioral management program for adolescent males involved in gangs, violent offenders, etc.
Lauren’s primary responsibilities include facilitating FAC classes and STARS groups – both are substance use programs which typically involve students who are mandated and/or self referred to explore their relationship with substances. Lauren enjoys working individually with students who are interested in delving further into their substance use, relationship difficulties, adjustment and mood issues.
The place I’d most like to see
Africa – I would love to go on a walking safari and be face-to-face with the wildlife and experience African culture.
My favorite thing about working at CAPS
Being able to work with such a fun population! I feel CU students are creative, intelligent, and bring a lot of energy to the campus. In addition, the staff in CAPS are some of the best, in my opinion. I feel fortunate that I enjoy coming in to work each day.
