Chemistry Waitlist Information

The enrollment capacities of CHEM classes are based on the classroom capacity and the amount of recitations we can offer. The department is as responsive to course demand as possible, but we are unable to over-enroll any class. Instructors and advisors are unable to enroll any student into a waitlisted class.

How waitlists work with recitations: In CHEM lecture classes with a recitation, your waitlist position is determined by your position for the recitation. Since CHEM recitations are limited to 21 students, a waitlist position of 2 means that 2 (out of 21) students would need to drop the class for you to be enrolled. You MUST be enrolled in the recitation to be enrolled in the lecture. If there is an opening in a recitation, there will be an opening in the connected lecture. Students on a CHEM waitlist for lecture may not attend recitation but are expected to attend the lecture.

How to check your waitlist position:

- In Buff Portal, go to the “Your Classes” card

- Select the waitlisted class to open the class details

- Under the “status” heading you will see your position on the waitlist.

- Your waitlist position is your position for the recitation (see paragraph above for more information)

As a waitlisted student, you are NOT guaranteed to have a space in the class. We recommend you:

- Look to see if there is an open section of the class (both lecture and an associated recitation) and if you can adjust your schedule to enroll in that class. If you need help, please see your academic advisor.

- Add a back-up class in case you are unable to enroll in the waitlisted class.

The last day to be automatically enrolled into a class from a waitlist is the add deadline. If you are still waitlisted between the add and drop deadline, and if you see an opening in lecture and connected recitation, you may email chemundergrad@colorado.edu to request enrollment. Your email should include your Student ID Number, the section you are wanting to enroll in, and a statement from you confirming that you have been attending the lecture. Enrollment at this time will require instructor’s permission to confirm that you have been attending class, if you have not been attending class, you will not be enrolled.
Please do not email chemundergrad@colorado.edu multiple times. You will receive an email reply within 48 hours or 2 business days.

If you are waitlisted for a lecture, you are not allowed to attend the recitation.
If you are waitlisted for a lab, you are not allowed to attend the lab.
