I have traveled to India and the middle east numerous times. Each time I learn something entirely new about the culture and come back wanting to know more. My experiences there have allowed me to be able to see places which are truly in need of support whether it be medically, environmentally, or even basic housing. being able to see all these places has made an impact on my goal in life as I want to be able to help places such as those. It’s unfortunate so much of the world lives in poverty due to many injustices and I would love to be able to change that even if it was only one village because even that village counts. Because I have seen the conditions of many of these places first hand, I have a number of ideas of what can be done to help improve them. Not only that, but I even get to see the local’s solutions to such issues which is truly inspiring as they all live well even through hardship.
I would want someone who is flexible, outgoing, and helpful living down the hall from me. Being able to have someone who is always willing to help whether it be to study or to pick out an outfit is a trait which I find very valuable and try incorporate into my life. Everyone needs a helping hand sometimes and knowing that I have someone would bring much ease to my life. Additionally, being able to have a neighbor who is outgoing and flexible would make dorm life much more interesting. We could have study sessions or a nice day out taking a hike. This person would be ready to do anything and so would I. Being able to have a person like this around would not only bring ease to dorm life, but they would bring so much positivity and support. College life can be a big change and having someone like this would help make it easier and much more fun.
The Global Engineering RAP will allow me to meet many like-minded people who also aim to better the world through real action rather than programs. I want to be able to gain more knowledge on how I can help those who are impoverished and really make an impact. This community will train me to an engineer who thinks of the bigger long-lasting picture instead of a temporary fix and aid me to be a more analytical person rather than using the solution which is "easiest". Due to my first-hand experience in some of these impoverished places, I have a number of ideas which I can contribute to the community. Additionally, I can even set up outreaches to actually go there in person to make a real impact. The Global Engineering RAP will be highly beneficial to me as it will provide much experience, knowledge, like-minded people to truly be able to express ideas freely.
