I love to travel and explore the unknown. I believe that pushing past one’s comfort zone is so important to learn more about the world. I have traveled domestically to many different states from the east coast to the west coast. I enjoyed experiencing how each region is different and learned many interesting things about my country. I have also traveled outside of the country to Mexico and found the culture fascinating. I studied Spanish most of high school and plan to continue to improve my understanding and fluency of the language. Although I am not advanced in speaking Spanish, I constantly challenge myself to improve my comprehension of the language.
Furthermore, I am traveling to Europe this coming summer. At three weeks, this will be my longest trip ever and I am so excited to experience new places I have never been before. Specifically, I am traveling to Spain, Italy, and France. I am most excited for Spain so I can practice my Spanish. I also can’t wait to experience their food, culture, and customs. In Spanish class, we studied the history of Spain and how their traditions have evolved. I am honored to finally put my knowledge to use and see Spain in person.
Although it isn’t traveling, another experience that has prepared me culturally for the Global Engineering RAP is my middle and high school, Denver School of Science and Technology: Montview. DSST is a small, public high school that is known for its diverse, tight-knit community. Many students have direct ties to foreign countries. With the exception of Antarctica, all continents are represented. In fact, my high school’s website is translated in over 50 languages. Learning with such a diverse group of students has truly opened my eyes to new perspectives, beliefs, and lifestyles. Seven years in the DSST family has taught me that we are more similar than different.
Additionally, I want to study abroad for a year. I hope my new RAP friendships will give me inspiration about where I can spend my year abroad. The Global Engineering RAP will help prepare me with a deeper understanding of where I can study engineering somewhere else in the world and contribute to the global engineering challenges.
My previous travels, my trip this summer, and my high school community will provide me with experiences and knowledge I can share with the Global Engineering RAP. If accepted, I can’t wait to share my stories with others and learn more about everyone’s cultures.

The person I would want to live down the hall from me in the Global Engineering RAP is someone who is interesting and differs from me. I believe that spending time with people who are different can increase intellectual humility and broaden my horizons.
I also want someone who is welcoming and friendly. Having a community I feel comfortable and accepted in will help me settle in to CU Boulder and really establish the campus as home.
Along with that, I would want them to be outgoing and willing to try new things. I enjoy being pushed outside my comfort zone and learning new information, and would find it most beneficial for the community around me to be open to new endeavors.
Lastly, I would want someone who enjoys working together and sharing their unique knowledge. Teamwork is very important to me and I would love to be surrounded by a group of students who can improve one another and hold each other to high standards.

Many of the current challenges facing our world today need to be addressed with global solutions. For example, pollution, hunger, climate change, and energy demand will require all countries working together to address. Specifically, we need engineers to help solve these problems. The Global Engineering RAP represents what can be done globally to find solutions. We can work together now and eventually take the skills and relationships we learn and spread them globally after graduation.
I know that the Global Engineering RAP will help expand everyone’s knowledge of Engineering as well as new cultures. I am always open to discovering new things and exploring the unknown. These are the types of students I’d like to surround myself with.
I’m unique and will bring my own beliefs and perspectives to the RAP. I am a Colorado native and was raised locally, I can be a sort of “board of tourism” for Colorado. I can help my fellow RAP students get around and explore if they are unfamiliar with the state. I can make recommendations of what to do and where to go. I am honored to share my home state with other students so they feel welcomed and can enjoy all Colorado has to offer.
