I am very lucky to have been able to travel to many places since I was very young. Not only do I have experience traveling domestically, but I have also been to more than 10 other countries. The most influential of these was during the summer of 2016 when my aunt, sister, mom, and I traveled through parts of Europe. This experience taught me so much about how to travel abroad. I learned how to effectively use public transportation and how to live in places and situations that were new and different to me. Not only did I learn useful skills about the logistics of traveling abroad, but I learned about new cultures and new people that I had never been exposed to before. Unfortunately, I have not been able to study abroad physically, but, during the summer of 2021, I participated in a virtual exchange through the Youth Ambassadors program sponsored by the US Department of State. This program emphasized the importance of collaboration and understanding of different cultures and people to me. Even though I was not physically able to go to Belize during this exchange, I learned so much about Belizian cultures and made connections with Belizean people that will last forever. All of these experiences prepared me for the Global Engineering RAP by not only teaching me the importance of traveling and studying abroad to connect with other people and cultures.

The ideal person I would want to live down the hall from me is someone with some similarities, but also a lot of differences. This RAP allows for a common similarity, engineering. This makes it easy to relate and talk to the people I will be living with. It is also important to be different from the people I am surrounded by. I want to be able to learn from and about different people and their stories. It is important to listen to and learn from other perspectives. Living in a diverse community with a coming interest is one of the best ways I can think of to expand my understanding of global issues.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP to learn about new cultures and how I can use my engineering degree to better the US’s relationships with other countries. For the future, I dream of a career in chemical engineering, a field where language skills are commonly undervalued, and I can see myself working to close that gap by continuing to study Spanish in addition to learning a new language. I am also very intrigued with opening my circle to include world-wide connections. My abilities to make cross-cultural connections have been primarily limited to people living in my own community. This RAP would give me an amazing opportunity to open myself up to new cultures and people. I can personally contribute to this residential community because I will bring my own unique perspectives and experiences. Something that makes me unique is my eclectic variety of interests. Not only am I dedicated to my academics and to achieving my IB diploma, but I am also on the Varsity Track and Field Team and participate in theatre, in addition to working at a local ice cream shop. What makes me the most unique is my involvement in Track & Field where I throw the shot put and discuss. Not only am I one of only a small number of throwers at my school, but I am one of less than five female throwers. While I have also participated in golf and Ultimate Frisbee at Lakewood High School, throwing has sparked a passion in me that I have never experienced before. I am always excited to go to practice and even more excited to compete in the weekly meets. Additionally, I am the only person on the entire track team who also does theatre. I have been on the lights crew since my sophomore year and have spent hundreds of hours perfecting the productions. I am always excited to start new things and learn new skills. Throughout all of my adventures in high school I have been able to meet some of the most influential and important people, people who I would have never known without extracurriculars like Track & Field and theater. I also am involved in a variety of clubs. I am an officer at my school’s Interact club where we organize and participate in volunteer opportunities and activities. I am also a member of my school’s Women For the World Club. Just this year, my best friend and I started a campaign to provide free feminine hygiene products in the school's bathrooms. We had a meeting with the principal and conducted many information sessions where we had to speak in front of a room full of people.
