I have always loved being able to travel to new places to experience new cultures. I have not yet had the opportunity to study abroad, but I have traveled abroad to countries with very different cultures than my own and I plan on studying abroad when I attend CU. Throughout high school, I have also become friends with people who have very different backgrounds compared to my own such as first-generation immigrants. Forming these types of relationships has allowed me to gain a different perspective of the world and my own life. My goal with joining the Global Engineering RAP is to be able to communicate with people who have very different backgrounds and ways of living than me. I want to be able to share intellectual ideas with a wide variety of people that can help positively benefit the world.
I would want to live near people who are respectful and quiet during the night so that I can study for the vigorous coursework that I will have with being an engineering major. I would also like to be near people that are interested in doing fun cultural activities such as going to Denver to see shows or go to the museums. I think it is important to have a good balance of studying/work life and being able to socialize and enjoy my free time with friends, so I would like to live near someone who has a similar mindset.
I would love to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP because I believe that it will give me the opportunity to see how my work as an engineer corresponds to the bigger picture of society. I believe that it will allow me to interact with a wide variety of people and it will help me see the impact of what engineers can do. I would contribute my experience with volunteering and the leadership skills that I have gained over the past five years as a member of the National Charity League. I believe that I would be a strong contribution to this amazing program that allows members to see what role they can have in the world through the connection of STEM and business.
