Last summer my family and I took a trip to Hawaii over the Summer. One thing that became apparent to me was their low infrastructure. Due to their lack of resources and money, their buildings, roads, and way of living were quite poor once you go into the city or even north shore (the more local side of Oahu). One example of this is the Aloha Stadium. It was closed due to financial issues they claim, however, most would say that it was unsafe to hold fans. This situation is something that could have prepared me by opening my eyes that there are places in the world that lack knowledge in engineering aspects.
When being in the Global Engineering RAP, down the hall I would want someone who can problem-solve for more than just themself. I would want to be around people who have quality teamwork skills, well-rounded people, and would be a great support in and out of school life. Lastly, I would want someone who is willing to learn more about those around them and is open to listening.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder because I see myself as a person who is smart and open to others. I come from an area of diverse races and cultures. So being around those who are different from me is not something new. During my high school years, I am used to taking higher-level courses, so I understand how important it is to help those around you. I have experience in peer revising and giving quality feedback. I am looking forward to being in this community to help build my own knowledge of engineering more than just face value.
