Biomedical Engineering
English (5), Bulgarian (4)
I grew up in a Bulgarian family and lived in an American world. My life has been a mixture of both cultures and I actively seek other cultures to expose myself to.
When I travel to Bulgaria and looked out of the balcony window of the grandparents' apartment I see playgrounds filled with rusted metal, run-down concrete graffiti lining nearly every square inch, and people scarred by the crime and trafficking that is an almost normal part of life and even a way of living.

Continue to move farther away from the capital and you get hamlets that looked like they were taken directly out of the 1600s with little to no signs of the outside world and stricken with ways to just survive.

I've seen the cities and walked through the fields and villas. I know that I need to do something about Bulgaria and lift them out of the second-class status. Living in America gives me the opportunity to explore the world without the fear of crime and poverty
I would like the person that lives down the hall to be a person of great creativity and passion for what they do even if it isn't for engineering. This question reminds me of an English teacher I had where his passion was board games and he had many things that didn't have to do with English. His focus was on students that were passionate about anything outside of school and made me help pick the major that I am in.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP because I want to help people that don't have the same opportunities as I did like in Bulgaria. I want to be a person that goes above what just an engineer is and gives the Community a source of new perspectives and expressivity. Since the whole idea of Biomedical Engineering is very "Jack of All Trades" with multiple focuses on most of the diciplines, I hope that my perspective on my major can assist people in the Global Engineering RAP.
