I was born in China and since my adoption have been connected to my heritage. I went to an International school where I was immersed in the Chinese culture and taught primarily in Mandarin. I became fluent in mandarin by fifth grade and had already started learning Spanish. When I was in fourth grade I traveled to China for a school trip where I toured the country and learned about the culture. I spent a day going to a school in China where I learned about their different practices and the way they were taught. I also spent a day with a small family that lived up in the mountains where I learned some more traditional practices and their way of life.
Throughout middle school and high school I took Spanish classes. I got to learn about the history of Spain and its perspective. Every year my family travels. I have been to Argentina where I watched the ice caps melt and spent the nights out in the streets; I have been to Costa Rica where I toured the jungle and learned about the natural wildlife and their habitats; In recent years, I have been to a small town in Mexico that my family has fallen in love with where we immerse ourselves in the culture. There, I am able to practice my Spanish in the real world and see the way people lived in the small towns. I have also traveled to Peru where I got to explore and learn about the ancient Incan culture. I hiked up a mountain to a small village where I learned to weave and take care of the animals.
In my sophomore year, I traveled to Italy where I visited many Roman sites and learned about the history behind the Roman empire and its downfall. I went to Pompeii and learned about the culture of the people who lived there before the tragic event. I roamed the streets of Assisi and was able to listen in in church. I visited many cathedrals and learned about the painters of the giant murals, what they represented in their art, and the beliefs and faith the people who went had. I learned how to buy food from the open markets and ate many traditional dishes. I absolutely love traveling and learning about different cultures and I hope to do so more in the future.

I want to live near someone who loves what they are doing and truly enjoys their classes. I want to live near someone who is studious and genuinely loves school and learning; someone who can focus their time and energy into multiple things yet gives the same amount of effort for each. I want to be around someone who can also take their head out of a textbook and go out into nature; someone who knows the balance and difference between studying material and getting hands on experience. I want them to be passionate about life helping others and want to make a difference in the world.
I want to live near someone who is kind and cares about others; someone who is active in the community and loves volunteering their time to help others; someone who loves having fun and knows how to be in the moment and not take life for granted. I want to be around someone spunky and positive; someone who wants to help others; someone who loves the environment and all its beauty. I want to live near people who are adventurous and up to try almost anything just for the experience or fun of it.
I want to surround myself with people who have come from all different places and had different experiences; someone who has different beliefs, different values, and different views on life. I want to live around people who can keep me open minded and constantly learning; people who can educate me about different cultures ands ways of living; people who aren't afraid of being themselves and are confident in who they are as a person. I want to be near someone who is open about their life but also willing to sit down and listen.

I've always wanted to help the world. My mindset has always been even if you might not be the best person you can be yet you can still do good things. When I was in my sophomore year of high school I organized a group of friends to make some sandwiches and give them out to the homeless people that lived in the park right outside the high school. It was a small act but I loved knowing I was making even the slightest difference; even just making someone smile. I also started volunteering at the Humane Society around the same time. Being there with all the animals was the highlight of my day. I loved spending time with the dogs and seeing them leave with their new forever homes. I became very attached to them and I realized I wanted to do more.
When I started to think about college and the major i wanted to be in I knew I wanted to do something that could help the world. I explored so many different engineering fields but I became interested in biomedical and environmental engineering. No matter what, I knew I wanted to be an engineer. I absolutely love the engineering field and i want to be around others who feel the same way; I want to be around other engineers so I can also get a feel for the different types of engineering and why they love it. I want to be around people who think the same way as me so we can benefit each other with problem solving and teamwork.
I know that I want to keep helping the world - whether it be people, animals, or the ecosystem. I want to surround myself with others who want to do the same as I do and I want to help them accomplish their own goals. Whenever someone needs help or wants to do something good for the world I want to be there helping them get to that point. I never want to see someone's dreams or hopes be vanquished because of the lack of support, supplies, time management, or hands. I want to be there for anyone who has a dream and I want to give back to my community as much as I can.
