I love to get out of my comfort zone. I am happiest when I am busy trying new things and learning from my experiences, and one of the best ways to do this is by traveling. Living in San Diego, I have taken Spanish classes since elementary school, and have travelled to Mexico multiple times. Along with this, I also visited family in Israel when I was younger and traveled the country to visit the Dead Sea and Jerusalem. Leaving the familiarity of San Diego to experience a completely different culture is always extremely exciting. Becoming familiar with this cultures and embracing them can be so rewarding. I remember connecting so well with my cousins in Israel despite our language barrier, playing at the beach and skateboarding with fun as our universal language. I also recall ordering food in Spanish in Mexico and immediately having a stronger connection con los meseros. The world is constantly becoming more and more globally connected with constant advancement of technologies. As an engineer, I am fascinated by these technologies that improve communication and the ability for professionals to work across nations, and I would love to get out of my comfort zone some more.
When I'm surrounded by people like me, I tend to thrive. This is part of the reason I took a total of twelve AP classes during my time in high school. Despite the many hours of nightly homework and high-stress environment, I continued to take these classes because of the incredible classmates who were equally motivated to work hard in the pursuit of being challenged everyday by interesting topics. I want the person living down the hall from me to be motivated and hardworking, but still have a fun side outside of school. I'm a member of multiple environmental clubs at my school, and I'm also the president of our mountain bike club. I love adventures, the outdoors, and being spontaneous, because that's how the best memories are made. I want the person living down the hall from me to love adventures and be down for anything. However, this perfect person could live in the hall of any dorm in CU. I'm looking for a close group of peers to study with and really understand each other, something you can only find in the Global Engineering RAP. One of my favorite parts about my high school was its diversity. With no racial majority, all of my closest friends came from different unique and interesting cultures. These differences in background provide varying insights to spur and augment any discussion through civil debate. I want the person living down the hall from me to always be down to constructively collaborate on engineering work or engage in thought-provoking conversation.
Being a member of the Global Engineering RAP would provide me with opportunities that would facilitate my learning experience and allow me to do meaningful work as an engineer. I perform best with a group of diverse and like-minded peers, which I have learned from my four years of taking AP classes and working with dedicated and passionate clubs. The professional world is becoming more globally connected than ever with multinational corporations on the rise and technologies to facilitate this trend being constantly produced. Being a member of this kind of close-knit academic community would facilitate my pursuit of a college path in which I can design and produce new technology for this modern world. I can help others in different situations than myself using my passion for problem-solving and engineering. Global engineering is all about awareness and seeing eye to eye through differences. I love to learn, and I learn best when I'm collaborating with people with different perspectives. Along with this, I always work hard to understand others and I believe that it is extremely important to be familiar with the cultures of others in order to build community. I don't think there is a better place to build this kind of community of engineers than the Global Engineering RAP. As a member of the Global Engineering RAP, I would look forwards to combining my passion for engineering with my passion for understanding others, to learn more about our world and the role of engineers in it. I would love to live on the floor of a dorm where I can work or study with anybody and improve as a globally aware person. I would love to use my own background and personal insights to help encourage conversation and make the residential community a more positive and exciting place!
