Civil and Environmental Engineering
English(5), Spanish(3)
Throughout my childhood, I traveled with my family at least once a year. We took a wide range of trips from Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon to New Zealand. Through these trips, I was able to experience many different cultures and languages. I was able to try different types of food, see different architecture, and observe how other people act in their everyday life. I feel very fortunate to have had these opportunities because they inspired me to help people all around the world. I have also studied Spanish for 5 years in hopes to one day visit South America and use my knowledge to help communities there. I find that because of my ability to travel, I am a more adventurous person than I used to be. I am willing to try everything to be able to experience things that are not my own. This motivates me even more to be a part of the Global Engineering RAP so that I can continue to widen my perspective and learn more about other communities and help them as well.
The person that I would want to live down the hall from me does not necessarily fit into a box. I want a person who is equally academically driven, values hard-work and good grades, and someone who exudes kindness and understanding for others. This person, however, does not need to have the same interests as me. They could have a vastly different background and believe things that I do not. I simply want a person who respects me for me, and is able to motivate and push me to greater success. Majoring in engineering is no small feat, and I want to be able to have people who support me while also understanding what I am going through. I hope that in this housing, I will be able to share experiences, laughs, tears, and misery with a shared respect for each other. Other than that, I have no preference.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP because I want to help people outside of my community. At CU Boulder, I would like to study civil engineering and environmental engineering. This is partly due to my desire to better the air and water quality in my community, but also to help provide sustainable solutions to many communities that need it. I feel that being able to travel and learn about the specific needs of a community will allow me to work in that area of field later in my career. Also, living with a group of like minded, driven individuals will push me to motivate myself and them. I feel that my passion for bettering the environment will contribute to the overall communal spirit and inspire others to help the cause. Also, my desire to create sustainable infrastructure and solutions to clean water in other communities will greatly help the people that live in them. I think that the Global Engineering RAP is the place for me because of my desire to impact many communities and to connect with others who would like to do the same.
