I have had many travel opportunities in my life, I think travel is the best way to explore new cultures and interact with new people in order to begin to understand how the world works. I've been to five of the seven continents on both personal and educational outings. I've learned about the theory of evolution while exploring the Galapagos, discovered the history of the Terracotta Warriors while in China, and worked with schoolchildren in Zimbabwe. My experiences represent a rich variety of cultural experiences that have prepared me for any obstacle that RAP may throw my way.
The ideal person to live down the hall from me in the Global Engineering RAP would share some similar interests with me and some different interests. I would like to be near somebody that shared my passion for nature and adventure, a person that I could go on bike rides with, or go skiing with. That person would understand and support my opinions on environmental issues and the importance of the wilderness, ideally, they would help me practically implement those ideas into our engineering work. In addition to sharing some similar passions, the ideal person would have some of their own unique ideas that I could use to inform myself and develop new ideas. The person down the hall from me would have similar study habits to me in order to have a friend that I could work on projects with, both for help, and just for company. The person down the hall from me could be any gender, race, sexuality, and have whatever worldview they want, as long as they are kind. I would want the person down the hall to be approachable, kind and helpful, and at the very least, a good friend.
I want to be a member of the Global Engineering RAP at CU Boulder since it will provide me with an advanced and unique educational opportunity that I wouldn't get anywhere else. I am intrigued by the specialized classes that are available to the members, as they will give me more opportunities to learn new things. Over the course of highschool I fell in love with learning and am always eager to find out more, the courses with RAP will help me follow that passion. In addition to the unique courses available to RAP engineers, I am also very interested in the Global Engineering part of the program. I have always been fascinated by cultures different than my own and RAP will give me the unique opportunity to not only experience cultures across the world, but to also work with people within those cultures, on projects I am passionate about.
