I love traveling and immersing myself in foreign culture. Recently I traveled to New Zealand and spent time with a tribe there and learned about their history and how they assimilated into modern culture. I have also been to Mexico several times where I used my 8 years of spanish studies to communicate with locals and get around.
I would want to live in a community of engineers who will knock on my door asking to work on a cool project or someone who just leaves their door open so I can stop by and hang out. Also, someone who hangs out in the lounge and study spaces in the dorms because engineering is a very collaborative major and working together on assignments is core to doing well as well as getting to meet others. I also think that someone who will be studying abroad would be very interesting to know. We could all talk about our experiences all over the world.
As an engineer, I want to make a difference, not just in my community but all over the world.I dont think it is possible to do this without having some sort of understanding of how the rest of the world operates and what issues they have that we might not necessarily face every day. It will also give them the opportunity to live with like minded individuals who want to achieve just as much as myself. I think that as a person with several years of leadership experience and having worked with elected officials, I will be able to take the position of a leader in this community and set up projects and activities in this community to make sure everyone has an incredible college experience while being able to learn, grow, and prepare ourselves for the workforce in the process.
