The World Health Organization (WHO) Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality (GDWQ) was last updated over 20 years ago and is currently being updated as the fifth edition.  Professor Karl Linden at University of Colorado Boulder and Professor Joe Brown at Georgia Tech along with their students are supporting the development of updated values for assessing pathogen reduction in drinking water treatment technologies at the household, small systems and large system scales by carrying out a systematic review of the literature.  Over the week of April 16, 2018, 15 expert environmental microbiologists and engineers from around the world will convene at the University of Colorado to spend a week in further development of the next generation of guidance relating to microbial aspects of the guidelines through the development of treatment technology log reduction values and microbial pathogen fact sheets.  In addition, key staff from the WHO headquarters in Geneva Switzerland will be at the meeting including the coordinator of the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Health division, Bruce Gordon.

In conjunction with this International WHO meeting being hosted at the University of Colorado, The WHO Water, Sanitation, Hygiene, and Health Coordinator, Bruce Gordon will be presenting a public lecture “A global perspective on water, sanitation and health: Deep rooted challenges and emerging issues”.  The University community and public is invited to this lecture at 5 PM, Tuesday April 17, 2018 in Room C120, the SEEC Building at 4001 Discovery Drive.  Please see flyer attached and contact Anna Segur (Anna.Segur@colorado.edu) if you need more information.
