Bola Odunaro is a graduate student in the Materials Science and Engineering Program at the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned his MSc degree from the University of Colorado Boulder. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria and also holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) and a National Diploma (ND) from Yaba College of Technology, Nigeria. He has experience in material characterization, processing, failure analysis of composites, and materials design. His current research focuses on enhancing concrete durability and sustainability, specifically on surface treatments to resist environmental degradation, reduce permeability, and improve resistance to carbonation, chloride ingress, and freeze–thaw cycles, all aiming to mitigate deterioration and preserve structural integrity. Additionally, he is working on developing a framework for the mix design of low-embedded carbon concrete using local materials. This research aims to create a systematic method for designing concrete mixtures that reduce carbon emissions while maximizing the use of regionally available materials. He is a current member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
