Lecturers and Instructional Associate Opportunities

The BUENO Center periodically has opportunities for Lecturers and Instructional Associates to teach graduate-level courses in bilingual and multilingual education as well as GED courses through our BUENO High School Equivalency Program. Teaching opportunities are based on program and course needs and are filled on an as-needed basis. Lecturers and Instructional Associates are appointed to teach a particular course or courses for which they are qualified. Appointments are temporary and are generally made on a semester-by-semester, academic-year, or shorter-term basis.

How the Appointment Title is Determined

The appointment title is assigned by the university based on the total percent time, or full-time equivalent, of the teaching assignment:

·         Lecturer: Used for course-by-course teaching appointments that are less than 50% FTE.

·         Instructional Associate: Used for course-by-course teaching appointments that are 50% FTE or greater.

Applicants do not apply separately for a Lecturer or Instructional Associate title. The appropriate title will be determined at the time of appointment based on the assigned teaching workload and applicable university policy.

An individual initially appointed as an Instructional Associate will continue to hold the Instructional Associate title for up to three calendar years after the initial Instructional Associate appointment, regardless of the percent time assigned during intervening semesters. After the three-calendar-year period concludes, the individual may no longer be appointed as an Instructional Associate but may be considered for appointment as a Lecturer or evaluated for another eligible faculty title, depending on curricular needs, qualifications, and available funding.

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Applicants should have:

·         A graduate degree and/or advanced professional experience related to the course or area of instruction.

·         Demonstrated expertise in bilingual/multilingual education, literacy, educational equity, or another area relevant to the course.

·         Prior experience teaching at the university level is strongly preferred.

·         Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students, educators, schools, or communities is preferred.

·         Candidates must also meet applicable university and accreditor faculty qualification requirements for the course or courses they are assigned to teach.

·         Individuals supporting the BUENO High School Equivalency Program must be available and willing to travel to their assigned job site(s) in either Fort Lupton, La Junta, or Fort Morgan.

Compensation and Benefits

Lecturer and Instructional Associate positions are temporary, at-will appointments. An appointment does not create a guarantee or expectation of continued or future employment.

Appointments are contingent upon instructional need, sufficient enrollment, available funding, and final university approval.

Compensation is determined based on the appointment title, assigned percent time, course level, number of credits, course duration, enrollment, type of course, relevant qualifications, and applicable BUENO Center and university compensation guidelines.

For Lecturer appointments teaching graduate-level BUENO courses, the current compensation range is $2,593.58 to -$10,375.38 per course assignment, depending on the course level, number of credits, duration, enrollment, and type of course.

Lecturers teaching for the BUENO High School Equivalency Program will be compensated on an hourly basis. The current hourly compensation range is per course $32.29-$35.88, depending on the course level, number of credits, duration, enrollment, type of course, and number of years with the BUNEO High School Equivalency Program.

Compensation for Instructional Associate appointments will be established based on the total assigned workload and percent time and will be communicated in the applicable job posting and letter of offer.

These appointments are temporary and are eligible for employee sick leave earned monthly on a prorated basis.
